ABSTRACT

The Covid-19 pandemic brought many businesses to a standstill as international travel restriction was imposed across countries in addition to a national lockdown. Firm performances were depressed due to reduced order and output. This study examines whether digitalization has mitigated the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on Malaysia's manufacturing sector. Using sales as the performance yardstick of 24 industrial sectors from January to December 2020, our result shows that manufacturing sales performance was negatively related to the Covid-19 pandemic. However, the adverse impact of Covid-19 was mitigated with a higher level of digitalization. The mitigating role of digitalization remains robust in further analysis. This study has managed to quantify the mitigating effect of Covid-19 on manufacturing sectors. As a policy implication, the government should expedite the introduction of the 5G network, promote digital adoption across all sectors to ensure business continuity and provide an effective response mechanism in any pandemic or crisis. © 2023, University of Wollongong. ABSTRACT

It is difficult to predict what will happen tomorrow, let alone predict the future of 3PLs in the coming decade. After all, in early 2020, who could have foreseen the upheaval the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to supply chains across the globe? Faced with so much uncertainty, one may want to take the approach of many futurists who think about time in a different way. Instead of thinking in linear terms and throwing darts several years into the future, they start with identifying more highly probable events in the short term and work outward (Webb, 2019). So, while we do not own a crystal ball, we are convinced that two currently emerging aspects, you could call them trends, will shape the foreseeable future of third-party logistics providers (3PLs). First, pronounced technological advancements pertaining to hardware and software increasingly impact the future of corporate supply chain management. Second, elements and events within supply chains are getting more difficult to predict. Looking at the next five to ten years, 3PLs will need to proactively address these trends because it directly influences the 3PLs success and because it influences the 3PLs' clients' success and their associated demand for logistics services. While both trends raise challenges, they also offer ample opportunities for 3PLs by enhancing their current services and developing new offerings. For this, 3PLs need to enhance their leadership and management skills. Moreover, 3PL need to emphasize establishing and managing collaborative relationships. © Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2023. ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to the more intensive use of digital technologies in higher medical education. The purpose of the study was to analyze the effectiveness of the implementation of digital technologies in the educational process of Ukrainian medical universities, to identify the current challenges e-learning faces, and to propose potential ways of optimization. General scientific methods (for example analysis, synthesis) specific pedagogical methods (specification, ion, comparison forecasting) were used for the research. The results outline the main advantages of using digital technologies in the medical higher school system. Attention is also drawn to the main challenges that have a certain negative impact on the educational process. Among the latter, problems with the practical training of future doctors were noted since distance learning does not provide an opportunity to fully implement skills building component. The results also highlight possible ways to solve the problems of using digital technologies in medical higher education institutions. It is proposed to introduce to use not only distance learning technologies, but to combine them with the traditional approach and independent learning. It is emphasized about further studies, as empirical measurements of the effectiveness of distance education in the medical field. And, this effectivenessstill needs to be ultimately proven.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic, in the current conditions of globalization challenges, turned out to be one of the general reasons for a significant decrease in the level of economic security of economic systems, including at the level of companies. This updates the issue of guaranteeing the economic security of companies. The study aims to develop the conceptual and methodological foundations of the innovative and investment provision of the economic security of companies in the conditions of the challenges of COVID-19. The methodological principles of innovative and informative provision of the economic security of companies are based on a systemic approach, which allows considering the company as an open system in which economic security is one of the determining subsystems. It has been shown that the economic security of the company must ensure the achievement of the socio-economic goals set for the company in the conditions of the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, protecting the company from adverse factors and the negative impact of internal and external changes. It is emphasized that innovation is a determining factor of the economic development of the company, and therefore of economic security. The staggering of systematic steps to make management decisions is suggested to ensure the economic security of the company in the conditions of the challenges of COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this Special Issue is to review and discuss, through practical examples from different countries, the rapid and effective responses of industries, societies and governments to the high level of uncertainty and risks created by the COVID-19 pandemic. This unprecedented health crisis has pushed managers, scientists, policy makers and many other social, economic and health actors to think ‘out of the box' and provide quick solutions by reducing the process of innovation, introducing new business models and new ways of ‘doing things' in many areas such as medicine, finance, retailing, communication, teaching, supply chains and sustainable development. This Special Issue also highlights the importance of holistic approach and collaboration between different disciplines and stakeholders.

ABSTRACT

To sustain early childhood intervention services during the Covid-19 pandemic, professionals, families, and communities had to move their support services to a digital distance. This posed particular challenges for all involved, as early childhood intervention is based on face-to-face contact in its basic design. However, as digital solutions were tested, the opportunities offered by supplementing face-to-face contacts with digital offerings also became apparent. ABSTRACT

The Corona Virus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has taught us many valuable lessons regarding the importance of our physical and mental health. Even with so many technological advancements, we still lag in developing a system that can fully digitalize the medical data of each individual and make it readily accessible for both the patient and health worker at any point in time. Moreover, there are also no ways for the government to identify the legitimacy of a particular clinic. This study merges modern technology with traditional approaches, thereby highlighting a scenario where artificial intelligence (AI) merges with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), proposing a way to advance the conventional approaches. The main objective of our research is to provide a one-stop platform for the government, doctors, nurses, and patients to access their data effortlessly. The proposed portal will also check the doctors' authenticity. Data is one of the most critical assets of an organization, so a breach of data can risk users' lives. Data security is of primary importance and must be prioritized. The proposed methodology is based on cloud computing technology which assures the security of the data and avoids any kind of breach. The study also accounts for the difficulties encountered in creating such an infrastructure in the cloud and overcomes the hurdles faced during the project, keeping enough room for possible future innovations. To summarize, this study focuses on the digitalization of medical data and suggests some possible ways to achieve it. Moreover, it also focuses on some related aspects like security and potential digitalization difficulties.Copyright © 2022 Digital Chinese Medicine

ABSTRACT

While it is widely assumed that the printing industry is in a state of declining demand, or "sunsetting” worldwide, our study suggests that the printing industry in Malaysia shows a stabilizing trend. Print service providers (PSPs) diversify and exploit the trend for digitization and automation and also explore new market segments to stay relevant. The industry's performance before, during, and after the pandemic from 2019 to Q2 2022 was analyzed. An interview with the top management of PSPs was conducted to obtain views on the impact of Covid-19 on the print business. The findings show macroeconomic factors' are heavily influenced by growth and suggest that demand will remain resilient going forward, making the outlook for the printing industry optimistic despite domestic and global uncertainty. We also discovered that the pandemic has given PSPs a chance to reevaluate their operations and rebuild using technology to support their businesses in the post-Covid-19 © 2023, Journal of Print and Media Technology Research. All Rights Reserved.

ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated and, somehow, forced the process of digital transformation within the higher education sector. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, online modes of course delivery have become the only available way of teaching in almost all parts of the world. We conducted a study in Mexico to know about students' preferences for these forced online class schedules, exams and assignments, and online teaching styles during this health crisis. Furthermore, this research sought to know about the impact of this forced digitalization on students' mental health and happiness. To conduct a conjoint analysis, we collected survey-based data from 219 undergraduate Mexican students. The most preferred attributes for students for online classes were "having a short online class (50 min)", "possibility to have 70% pre-exam assignments and 30% final exam", and "having a humorous professor in online classes". In terms of students' mental health, the prevalence of "moderate" anxiety and depression was 21.8%, and the prevalence of "severe" anxiety and depression was 14.9%. In terms of happiness, male students and students with shorter online classes per day felt a higher level of happiness.

ABSTRACT

The article analyses the key dysfunctions of the digitalization of higher education, changes in grades and students' attitudes to online learning during the pandemic. The key research method is a questionnaire survey of students of Russian universities. Empirical data are presented by the results of a study of students of Russian universities conducted in June-November 2021 (N= 1 107). Additionally, three focus groups were held with 29 participants (April–May 2022). We concluded that the optimism of students in assessing the benefits of digitalization of education is associated with the possibility of a facilitated search for educational materials, the exchange of experience, and cooperation in the information environment. The study's results illustrate the transformation of the role of the teacher, who loses the function of a mentor who transfers knowledge. In the new conditions, students request the entertaining nature of learning and the use of digital technologies to keep them interested. In the course of the study, we identified dysfunctions of the digitalization of education: motivation (unwillingness of students to take notes and memorize material in the conditions of the widespread availability of information, transfer of educational activities to the background, "sofa” learning format);control and assessment of knowledge (priority to test algorithms, unethical behavior during control activities and unfair practices of using digital technologies);communication (deterioration of interpersonal communication skills, focus on automation of feedback, "unmanned” learning technologies). Based on the study's results, we concluded the negative consequences of the digitalization of education during the pandemic: reduced concentration of attention, a distraction from educational goals, a superficial perception of information, lack of critical analysis skills. A chain of dysfunction was revealed, including a decrease in interest in learning, a selective approach to learning, segregation of knowledge, and deformation of the system for monitoring and evaluating knowledge. © 2022 Russian Public Opinion Research Center, VCIOM. ABSTRACT

The paper aims to identify the peculiarities of the digital development of Russian regions in terms of socio-economic uncertainty and determine the vector of regional policy to ensure accelerated digitalization of territories. The authors analyzed the main indicators of digital development households, organizations, and public authorities of Russian regions in the pre-pandemic period compared to the period of an active course of the pandemic, as well as at the stage of military and political instability. The research identifies Russian regions where digital development processes accelerated during the period of social and economic uncertainty caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as regions where digitalization limitations became evident. The analysis allowed the authors to conclude about the multidirectional influence of socio-economic uncertainty on the course of digital development processes in Russian regions. On the one hand, the transformation in consumer behavior and the new external conditions of socio-economic uncertainty during the pandemic led to an accelerated digitalization of regional economic systems. On the other hand, the socio-economic uncertainty of 2020 has caused dramatic changes in the implemented business models, formats of organizations, and the nature of employment, which manifested itself in the reduction of most indicators of digital development of organizations in 2020. For each selected group of Russian regions, the authors proposed state policy measures in the field of digital development, which is supportive and accelerated in nature. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

During Covid-19 pandemic many employees found themselves in the new position of teleworkers. Proof of the last years, teleworking remains an alternative to the classic system, reason why in this paper we aim to examine, based on an online questionnaire, the perceptions of Romanian employees about the very complex aspects that teleworking involves: the new ICT tools and technologies adoption, impact on work efficiency, work-family balance, and employees physical and mental health. The paper is based on an empirical analysis of data, and the authors have used as research methods: testing the independence of groups (Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal Wallis) and the correlation between variables, categorical principal components analysis (CATPCA) and logistic regression model. Our findings show that several factors, such as flexible working hours, family time, and autonomy have a positive influence on the decision to telework, while IT security risks, interruptions and virtual meetings were not perceived by respondents as negatively influencing their decision to telework. However, the consequences for mental health, such as mental stress, lack of socialisation and the difficulty of separating working time from family time, lead respondents to prefer another working system. The implications of the research are relevant for policy makers, employers, and employees as they reveal which categories of employees are more likely to telework and why.

ABSTRACT

With the recent global COVID-19 pandemic and lockdowns, accreditation delays have become inevitable in lieu of the strict travel restrictions. The usual accreditation inspection process conducted face-To-face was affected. Organizations are shifting to a reliance on technology to adapt to the national emergency. The study aims to bridge the gap by digitalization Professional Regulation Commission's (PRC) monitoring and accreditation system to conduct a virtual inspection and monitoring. With all of these said, the specific objectives of the researchers and developers are to develop an efficient digitized system that captures the original one. In developing the proposed accreditation and monitoring system and document management system (website) for PRC, the group will adapt and take inspiration from the Agile Development Lifecycle methodology, which will help the modification and other functionality of the system by using the iterative style in the development of the system. The proposed digital monitoring system undergoes a cross-browser test, and performance test, i.e., Requirements Traceability Matrix (RTM). These tests show that the proposed system passed the compatibility for commonly used browsers like Chrome, Edge, Mozilla, and many more. The Final Test in Performance Testing showed that the system RTM functions had passed all final testing. © 2023 IEEE.
